Born in New York in 1926 Morton Feldman began taking piano lssons at the age of tqelve. From 1941 he studied composition with Wallingford Riegger, ad later with Stefan Wolpe. An encounter with John Cage in 1950 had a lastin impact on Feldman. His entirely new musical aesthetics was influenced by his New York circle of friends, which was made of painters (Philip Guston), Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns) and musicians (John Cage, Christian Wolff, Earle Brown, David Tudor). Morton Feldman died in 1987 in Buffalo/ New York.
